elections, politics, sheep

If sheep could voteFor years I have been amazed at how the average person will place their trust in politicians.  They elect someone to office because they have promised to solve problems, then do precious little toward those ends.  When their term is up and they come back asking for people’s votes, they make the same empty promises, and the electorate sends them back to strike out again.  The process is repeated for decades until the politicians reach their dotage, all the while enriching themselves at the public trough and growing government while shrinking the voters’ freedom.

There’s a reason why political races devolve into mud slinging rather than substantive debates on policy.  If voters were to focus on the real issues that vex our country, and the candidates’ records, they’d realize that government is the worst tool to use to improve people’s lives. They might also see that career politicians are the last people in the world we should entrust with power.

When will YOU, regardless of your party affiliation,  stop swallowing their sheep-dip?

They didn’t gripe when Zoe played Naytiri in blueface in that stupid movie Avatar.  Of course that was way back in 2009 before only black lives mattered.  Plus she was all computer generated and fighting to save that big tree from the evil Colonel Quaritch played by Stephen Lang.

The social justice warriors are apoplectic that Zoe wore make up to look more like Nina Simone.  By the same logic, shouldn’t Daniel Day Lewis be castigated for not growing a real beard when he played the great emancipator in 2012’s revisionist history flick, Lincoln?  LincolnDVD

Imagine a future where a biopic of someone like Sir Francis Bacon has to be populated by a certain quota of black, Hispanic and Asian players.  I guess in that future where all movies have the proper set-asides for the politically correct number of black, Hispanic, and Asian actors, any makeup required to make people look more like the characters they are playing will be banned.

Picture a world of biographical movies like that piece o’ crap Steve Jobs, where they didn’t even bother to change Michael Fassbender’s hair color or hair style to make him look more like the title character.

BTW.  Stephen Lang and Robert Duvall had some nice make up when they played Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee in Gods and Generals.

A Greenpeace Paradise

NorthKoreaThis is a picture of North Korea at night seen from space.  Notice how dark it is since they don’t have the resources to have electric lights like their neighbors, South Korea, Japan, and China.

In North Korea, starving people eat rats to supplement their meager diet.  They still succumb and die in the streets by the thousands.  In winter thousands more freeze to death.

It’s a Greenpeace paradise.  Few fossil fuels, no coal burning electricity plants, minimal mechanized agricultural production.

The next time you hear some environmental activist tell you that global warming is killing us all, the next time you’re called a global warming denier when you point out that the the data simply does not indicate that the planet is warming, or you mention that New York city is not underwater like they said it would be, or comment that the polar icecaps are larger than they have been in years, and that the polar bear population is growing, not shrinking, that category 4 hurricanes have not devastated the US as they predicted, be prepared for them to go all Kim Jong Il on you.  Watch them sputter about “settled science” or the so called “97% of scientists,” then If you don’t kowtow, get ready for the threats.

That’s right.  They want you prosecuted under RICO statutes if you don’t accept whatever claims they make as unvarnished truth.  They’ve been making outlandish claims since the original Earth Day in 1970.

Like:

“[One] theory assumes that the earth’s cloud cover will continue to thicken as more dust, fumes, and water vapor are belched into the atmosphere by industrial smokestacks and jet planes. Screened from the sun’s heat, the planet will cool, the water vapor will fall and freeze, and a new Ice Age will be born.”

— Newsweek magazine

“The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.”

— Kenneth Watt

“Civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.”

— Harvard biologist George Wald

“We are in an environmental crisis which threatens the survival of this nation, and of the world as a suitable place of human habitation.”

— Washington University biologist Barry Commoner

“Man must stop pollution and conserve his resources, not merely to enhance existence but to save the race from intolerable deterioration and possible extinction.”

— New York Times editorial

“Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make. The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.”

— Stanford University biologist Paul Ehrlich

“Most of the people who are going to die in the greatest cataclysm in the history of man have already been born… [By 1975] some experts feel that food shortages will have escalated the present level of world hunger and starvation into famines of unbelievable proportions. Other experts, more optimistic, think the ultimate food-population collision will not occur until the decade of the 1980s.”

— Paul Ehrlich

“It is already too late to avoid mass starvation,”

— Denis Hayes, Chief organizer for Earth Day

“Demographers agree almost unanimously on the following grim timetable: by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions…. By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine.”

— North Texas State University professor Peter Gunter

“Air pollution…is certainly going to take hundreds of thousands of lives in the next few years alone.”

— Paul Ehrlich

“By the year 2000, if present trends continue, we will be using up crude oil at such a rate… that there won’t be any more crude oil. You’ll drive up to the pump and say, ‘Fill ‘er up, buddy,’ and he’ll say, ‘I am very sorry, there isn’t any.'”

— Ecologist Kenneth Watt

“In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution… by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half.”

— Life magazine

“At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it’s only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable.”

— Ecologist Kenneth Watt

Let’s face it– if these alarmists had their way with our energy policy, our freedoms would dissolve, we’d be sitting in the dark, as thousands starved, and even more froze to death.  Just like they do in North Korea.

Leftists Hate Truth

SowellQuote1

Truth be told, is there ever a good reason to riot and burn down businesses?  In the cities where all the race based violence has occurred because of police shooting young black men, leftists have been in solid control for at least four decades.  Did it ever occur to the residents of these places to vote out their so called leaders?  Perhaps the lure of “free” benefits is too enticing to overcome with mere truth and reason.

When a mob burns down a business, private citizens lose their livelihood.  In most of these cities, a business owner would face severe criminal penalties should they choose to defend their place of business with force of arms.  Ever wonder why the rioters don’t burn down city hall instead? Isn’t it the police, ergo local government they are upset with?  The truth is that police would shoot them down like dogs if they attacked a seat of government.  The greater truth is that all the “free” benefits come from the very businesses they are setting fire to.

Happiness, Taxes, Thomas Jefferson

JeffersonQuote2How happy are you on this day, the anniversary of Thomas Jefferson’s birth?  How do you think Jefferson would react if he learned that In 2011, the IRS’ own estimates revealed that individuals and businesses spent 6.1 billion hours a year just complying with the tax code?  That’s just part of the burden.  There are a lot more federal regulations to consider.

Happy birthday Mr. Jefferson!  I’m so glad you did not live long enough to see America now.

Who is watching the watchers, and why do the watchers get so wigged out about being watched?

Start recording every encounter you have with the police. As the police state becomes ever more threatening, they need to get used to the idea that their job is to protect and serve. They work for us. We don’t work for them.

Where’s The Truth In Indiana?

Franklin Graham, religious leader and son of Billy Graham in Washington, DC.Supporters say that the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act is needed to protect religious business owners who don’t want to provide services for same-sex weddings.  Critics, shrilly squeal that the measure would legalize discrimination against gays and lesbians, Muslims and Jews.

Does a business owner’s right to stand by their deeply held religious principles trump a Lesbian couple’s “right” to a wedding cake?  I have to come down firmly on the side of freedom and the business owner.

Take the logic to an extreme.  Suppose that a gay couple owned a bakery in Topeka, Kansas.  Then suppose that a heterosexual couple who are active members of the Westboro Baptist Church walk in and order a cake for their upcoming nuptials. The bakers feel that it would violate their deeply held principles to serve these customers.  Should the law force them to betray their beliefs and provide a service to people they don’t wish to serve? Isn’t it simpler and better for society for the Westboro haters to just go find another bakery instead of launching vast oceans of vitriol via social media then suing the bakery owner into bankruptcy?

The truth is that Christian doctrine only tolerates homosexuality.  In today’s climate of political correctness, the gay mafia and the left leaning public education mafia have managed to redefine tolerance to mean advocacy, especially for millennials.  While that new definition may have made its way into the popular culture, it has not and will not change the definition of tolerance for serious Bible studying Christians.

The adage “Hate the sin. Love the sinner.” is cold comfort for gays and lesbians. Mostly because many Christians do such a lousy job of living according to the rule.  Most lesbians and gays can’t be expected to relish the idea that they are sinners. I don’t like the fact that I am a sinner, but the truth that we all fall short of the Glory of God and need a Savior, is the core of Christian belief.

I also don’t like the idea that some people will think I’m hateful toward others just because Scripture clearly describes the way they behave as sinful.  I didn’t write the Bible.  We all like to look for loopholes to justify our sins, but Christ calls us to righteousness, not denial about our very sin nature.

The truth in Indiana is the same as the truth everywhere.  A handful of devout Christians will always stand up for what they believe God wants, no matter the cost.  A smaller group of militant LGBT folks will never be satisfied.  Redefining words does not change hearts and minds. Tolerance is a two-way street while advocacy only goes one direction.  When you make tolerance meaningless, you make peace impossible.

Amtrak, government waste, insanity

amtrakI just read that Amtrack employees were paid some pretty lavish bonuses for what any private enterprise would consider a disastrous year in 2014.

Amtrak handed out $11.2 million in bonuses as part of a short-term incentive program, which was designed to reward staff if they managed to keep operating losses under $305 million in 2014.

Limit your losses to hundreds of millions and get over ten million in bonuses!  An incentive plan like this could only be put in place by government.  The reason this kind of outrage happens is that our political overlords have no sense of fiscal responsibility.  It really isn’t Amtrak’s money– the money comes from taxpayers, so why not be generous?

In fact they were so generous that they overpaid some bonuses.  But rather than get the money back, they just chose  to forget the whole thing.  Check out the article here.

My guess is that there will be no consequences for the perpetrators of this insane little motivational scheme.  No one will lose their job.  There won’t even be a written reprimand.

C. S. Lewis, Personal Responsibility, The Nanny State, Tyranny

CS_Lewis_Quote_3That’s how it always starts, isn’t it?  Lawmakers claim they’re doing what they do for the good of the people.  And what do lawmakers do?  They pass laws.  What do laws do? Laws mostly place limits on our freedoms.

Limiting freedom rarely has a positive impact on society.  Citizens exercising personal responsibility is what makes a nation great.  Yet, rather than encouraging common sense and independence, government tries to mandate personal responsibility.  People do not and never will have equal senses of personal responsibility.  There will always be those who eat too much, drink more than they should, exercise less than they should, and drive less safely than they should, and even work less than they should.  Government, in it’s quest to make all things equal between us will never change human nature.  And yet it continually tries, claiming it is all for our own good.

Wearing seat-belts while driving is a good idea.  Passing a law that punishes people for not wearing their seat-belt is a bad one.  Under the guise of protecting us from ourselves, the state has created a new source of revenue — the fine for disobeying the law that requires you to pony up a couple of hundred bucks.

Be aware, it is not you or your personal safety the moral busybodies of the nanny state care about.  What they really care about is money and control. The tyrants feel good about it.  Especially since they know that the rules they tell you are good for you, don’t particularly apply to themselves.

dog-touchingI just read an article about a religious group issuing an official complaint against a Malaysian girl  who was photographed holding a dog at an adoption drive.  Evidently a picture of this sweet child and this lovable Golden Retriever was posted on social media and the group is outraged.  What could be more horrible than a child petting a big loveable puppy?

Some dude named Mohamed Hafiz Mohamed Nordin has called on the state to take action against the girl.  The whirlwind of controversy stems from an October 2014 event organized by Syed Azmi Alhabshi.  The “I Want to Touch a Dog” event was designed to allow Muslims to become familiar with man’s best friend.

Islam is conflicted over many issues and one of them is canines.  Certain conservative Muslims demand that dogs be completely avoided, while some moderate Muslims think dogs are okay as long as you avoid touching the pup’s snout and mouth.

Lisa, Wayne & Gilda

Lisa, Wayne & Gilda

I’ve owned two Goldens in my life and I can say with certainty, that you will NOT have a close encounter with this breed without touching or being touched by it’s mouth or it’s nose.  These dogs are big, affectionate, and live to get in your lap and chase tennis balls.  They especially like to chase balls into lakes and ponds, bring them back to you and then shake vigorously while standing as close to you as possible.

The organizer has gotten numerous online death threats for organizing the event.  He’s even been accused of being a Christian in disguise.  I’ve often thought that almost all dogs are Christians in disguise.  What animal presents a more complete portrait of unconditional love, loyalty, forgiveness, and forbearance than a dog?  I love the old joke about determining who loves you more, your wife or your dog.  Lock them both in the trunk of your car for two hours, the joke advises.  Then come back, let them out, and see which one is happy to see you.

One right wing Islamic group has gone so far as to blame dog petting  for recent tornadoes that ravaged the country.

Evidently the group posted on Facebook:

What has caused tornadoes to be interested in coming to this country when all this while it has never been interested to do so.  In the past, we only hear of it hitting the South China Sea and even if it does hit, it would be to Vietnam or the Philippines. Could it have something to do with the widespread vice, such as gambling centres, prostitution, beer and dog-petting festivals which have become an attraction?

I’m not sure if it’s just poor English or a bad translation, but the above quote seems to anthropomorphize violent weather phenomena to the extent that they have the ability to determine their international travel plans according to where the best casinos, whore houses, bars, and dog-petting festivals are located.  It kind of makes tornadoes sound like Secret Service agents.

You can’t trust a man who doesn’t like dogs.  There is something fundamentally wrong with them.  A large group that hates dogs and calls for the death of anyone who even pets a dog is just INSANE.  And yet Obama is willing to make a nuclear weapons deal with these kind of loons.
